Solomon had a total of 700 wives and 300 concubines, many of which were from foreign nations.  As God had warned (Deut. 7:3-4; 17:17), these wives proved to be Solomon's undoing.  They "turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God." (Cf. 1 Kings 11:1-13)
